It is such a lovely, uplifting day today. I had my husband start our mower as I have this paranoia of being the first to start the thing each Spring. It started, so now I can do the lawn when I get home. There are already dandelions! I usually spend a couple hours pulling them by hand. But, this weekend I'll mow them before they go to seed and next time, I will have time to pull them. My husband will do the weed and feed sometimes, but I tend to prefer to pull weeds by hand. I used to have more time though, since I was off all Summer with my previous job. This Summer, we'll see.
I have a small committment today, which I kind of wish I did not accept, as I'd love to just draw a bit and be outside a bit today. But, it's ok, I can do some lawn stuff when I get back. I hope we can BBQ later but I doubt it since my son and daughter both have a couple sports related things to go to later.
Today, I began a small portrait on a canvas, that will be for a demo in acrylic at the end of May. It will be one of my old babysitter, from some references I shot of her by a window a couple years ago. She is in Italy working now, as a chef, to gain some experience and learn a new language. She is a very adventurous person. My kids loved her, and her sister, who was there original sitter till she became too busy with school and a new job. Now, my kids are the same age that these girls were when I first met them and they babysat my kids.
The mourning dove outside our front door is still sitting on it's nest. I cannot wait to see the babies.
Last night, it was funny. I watched the 1986 Star Trek film, about the humpback whales that Kirk and his crew had to go back in time to the 90s, from the 23rd century, to get. I hated the new Star Trek films as they just "weren't the same" as the 1960s series ones. This one was, it had that same flavour. It had the way they interact, and the sarcasm and endearing qualities of the characters the series had. This one I liked when it came out. The funny part comes in when I look at that 23 year old film now and recall how Old we thought they all looked at the time that film came out, compared to the old series lol! Now, I looked at it and I thought "look how Young Shatner looks there, and Spock, and McCoy! lol!" Look at how 80s 90s it looks too lol! The same stuff I thought about the first series, in a way, how it appears so dated and "60s" when I see it now. Funny how things like that happen. I always had a huge crush on Mr Spock as a teen lol! It's too funny, all that nostalgic stuff.
